BARCELONA COULD RUIN TOTTENHAM’S PLAN TO SIGN WORLD CUP WINNER

By

FC Barcelona are reportedly plotting to sign N’Golo Kante next summer as a replacement for Sergio Busquets, with Arsenal and Tottenham also chasing the Chelsea superstar.

According to Sport, the 31-year-old midfielder is one of many options Barcelona are considering as a free-agent signing to replace Busquets, who is set to leave his boyhood club at the end of his contract next summer, with Kante on a shortlist with the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Naby Keita.

With Kante’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, many clubs will be interested in signing the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, with Foot Mercato recently reporting that both Arsenal and Tottenham are in the race to sign the Chelsea dynamo, who could be open to another challenge in the Premier League.

The Gunners had been linked with Kante throughout the summer whilst Antonio Conte’s side have seemingly only now just joined the battle for the midfielder’s signature. Yet like so many things in football, if Barcelona are involved, they’re likely to get what they want.

Indeed, replacing a player as influential as Busquets will be quite the challenge for Barcelona. Yet Kante might just be the best player available next summer for Xavi Hernandez’s side to sign given the Chelsea star’s abilities and outstanding record in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Although Kante’s future is yet to be determined, an exit from Stamford Bridge feels likely at this stage, and signing for Barcelona ahead of Arsenal or Tottenham could be quite the career move for the Frenchman, who might want one last major transfer before entering the twilight years.

BARCELONA SIGNING KANTE WOULD BE AN OUTSTANDING TRANSFER IN 2023

Kante has given everything and more for Chelsea since signing for the club in 2016 for £30m, and next summer feels like the right time for the midfielder to depart west London, with a move to Barcelona arguably the perfect ending to the Frenchman’s time in England.

Whilst signing for Arsenal or Tottenham would be a stellar transfer in the Premier League and one to stoke a London rivalry, signing for Barcelona feels right for Kante as the midfielder approaches the end of his prime and looks towards another chapter is his glittering career.
