Hon Aden Duale, the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Township of Garrisa, has responded after four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioners declared that the presidential election results were marred by irregularities, particularly during the final stages of tallying.
On social media, the former National Assembly majority leader stated that the decision of the four IEBC commissioners to abstain from announcing presidential election results has no bearing on President-elect William Ruto.
Duale stated that the IEBC chairperson is the only person mandated by the Constitution in article 138(10)(a) to declare the presidential winner after 7 days of the presidential election.
He also stated that the four commissioners’ actions have no legal ramifications. This comes after the four commissioners disavowed the election results, claiming that the final process was opaque.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati stated during the announcement of the results that some commissioners had been informed while others had not. He did, however, make the presidential announcement for the country.
